Edible Books Festival!

Congratulations to 6th grader, KayLee Todd, for taking first place in the Student-Baked category at UCCS’ Edible Book Festival on Friday, April 15th! KayLee’s creation depicted Once Upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris. All entries were evaluated by Paula Miller (Executive Director PPLD, literary qualities), Brent Beavers (Chef at Giuseppe's Old Depot Restaurant, culinary qualities) and Claire Rau (Visual and Performing Arts Department at UCCS, artistic qualities). KayLee’s creation was noticed by Brent Beavers for its’ attention to detail as well as the manner in which it was sculpted. Great job, KayLee!

I also submitted an edible book for The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Although it did not win, I had fun making it! Start considering how YOU might represent a book using food for the contest next year!

    Excellent idea! We'll have to keep this in mind for next year. Could be a good activity for April. Don't let me forget! :)
